The Jungle heart
The brief was to develop a jungle-inspired nursery moodboard that avoided literal, overly themed interpretations in favour of a more considered, long-term design approach.
The concept was built around two key ideas: first, the jungle was interpreted not only as playful but also as vast, unknown, and at times overwhelming for a child; second, the space needed to evolve with the child over time rather than rely on short-lived, decorative clichés.
This led to the development of a “safe corner of the jungle” concept: a darker, cocoon-like, and softly atmospheric space that offers protection while still encouraging curiosity and exploration.
The palette leaned into deeper, muted greens, warm neutrals, and earthy tones, creating a grounded and calming environment. Materiality and textures were central, with natural woods, soft textiles, and tactile finishes used to reinforce comfort and sensory engagement.
Child development principles informed the design direction, including early-stage colour contrast to support visual stimulation, Montessori-inspired elements to encourage independence, and adaptable furniture designed to evolve as the child grows. Decorative choices were intentionally elevated and adult-led, ensuring the space felt cohesive within the wider home while still holding a sense of imagination and discovery, rather than a stereotypical “baby room” aesthetic.
